When Was The Last Time You Got Focused On Just One Creative Project, And Happily Saw It Through To Completion?

"Dan, your book has saved my sanity.

I bought it yesterday and read it immediately. You address the very problem I'm suffering - of suddenly having too many ideas dancing in my mind, all shouting "pick me, pick me," when I'm supposed to be focussing on my current work in progress - the romantic suspense novel I've been trying to write for four years...

I love your writing style. Your wisdom speaks to my creative soul - that part that makes even light fiction resonate with deep universal truths and that when it's on fire I feel like I'm just a channel for some energy that even I can't mess up!

...I just had to let you know how your book has helped me. Thanks for being the creative catalyst for my new passion for writing - for life in general, in fact. This sounds gushy, but it is simply and profoundly the truth."

Dear Fellow Artist,

How often do you become fully focused and absorbed in a creative project, and bring your best ideas to completion without distraction?

Do you remember, once upon time, how that felt?

How freely and effortlessly you created?

How you lost track of time and place you were so happily lost in creating?

How passionate and motivated you were?

How much you believed in what you were creating, and how proud you were when you'd finished?

Maybe it was months, or even years ago?

Maybe you can't EVER remember a time like this...

We all have many reasons for not being able to get focused on just one idea, and they all seem valid and real.

Which of these do you recognise?

  • I find it impossible to pick just one idea when so many are vying for my attention.

  • I'm scared of even starting a new project because I've become a serial non-finisher, and I can't bear that feeling of failure yet again.

  • I always seem to get distracted by other stuff like checking my email or reorganising my art supplies and before I realise it, hours have gone by with nothing to show for it. Again.

  • I'm worried about choosing the wrong creative idea or project and wasting valuable creating time.

  • I don't feel I know which projects and ideas are most important, how can we possibly tell?

  • I can't bear to think of working on just one project, I'd get so bored, I need variety and a range of stimulation.

  • I've become so used to flitting between half a dozen different projects, I can't even remember how it feels to get focused on just one.

Which of these are sounding most familiar to you?

What about these:

  • The stack of unfinished "works in progress" that I know I'll never return to make me feel useless and worthless as an artist.

  • However much I try to focus on one project, there always seems to be some other shiny new project or idea appearing on the horizon that seems more exciting and more important.

  • I always seem to sabotage myself before I get anywhere significant with any of my ideas.

  • I take so much time trying to pick the perfect project that by the time I have chosen something, I'm exhausted and haven't the motivation to actually start creating.

  • I'm always checking the clock, wondering how much time I have left, which makes me so anxious I never settle into any creative groove or flow.

  • I don't feel any of my artwork or what I create is that important, so I don't make it much of a priority in my life.

  • Even if I do get started on one project, my head is so full and chaotic with other ideas, I just can't seem to concentrate and get focused.

In today's hectic and hyper connected times, getting beyond all these reasons and distractions feels harder than ever.

You're not alone in feeling SO frustrated about not being able to focus on just one idea for long enough to create anything - something - meaningful or worthwhile.

The trouble is, every time you try to start something new, thinking "This is the idea I'm going to finally really give my full focus to", it ends in another aborted project, and another major blow to your already paper thin confidence.

Even though there's a part of you desperate to create, you just can't see how you're ever going to be able to get focused enough to make your time and effort worthwhile. So you don't even bother starting.

How many of those reasons listed above are ones that stop YOU from getting focused and creating more?

Any one of them would be bad enough. But they come in combination, a devestating combination that sucks your motivation into a bottomless void. One you feel you'll never crawl out from.

Even worse than that, the problem is much bigger than you just not being able to getting focused every now and then.

If you don't create regularly, you never allow yourself to get into any kind of creative flow or rhythm. The less you create, the harder it becomes to create.

This vicious circle of frustration continues until you give up on creating altogether, it's just too much of a struggle.

If you don't finish at least some of your projects, if you don't see at least a few of your ideas through to completion, you feel more dejected and worthless than ever.

There is hope though, however hard you find it to get focused.

How would you like to feel, in less than an hour or two from now,
that YOU are in control of getting incredibly focused again?

How would you like to feel you have the confidence to choose the ideas that are most important to you, and create freely and without distraction, seeing them through to completion and feeling that proud glow return?

In my work as a Creativity Coach, struggling to get focused is one of the biggest issues that people come to me with.

In fact in the last six months or so, it's been THE biggest single issue, one that's come up time and time again, and led to those same reasons and feelings we spoke of above that you've been feeling and struggling with too.

Which is why I wrote this new book:

How To Get Focused And Create What Matters

A Practical Guide for Choosing Your Best Ideas
and Bringing Them To Completion

"Dan knows that we creative types all have similar struggles.

This book will help you with your creative process by reminding you that ideas are endless, but you don't have to develop every single one that you have. Just getting that permission to let an idea go is very freeing.

If you need assistance narrowing down your idea field, creating new ideas, or finishing what you start, this book is for you!"

- Courtney Carver, bemorewithless.com

"Dan, loved the ebook. I think the 7 Truths will be a great help to people who are trying to reactivate their creativity. You've created an excellent work on creativity and how to harness it. Fabulous job!"

- Lin, USA

"I read this book in a couple of hours, then I went and cleared my kitchen table, strewn with materials for several projects. I sat down and finished one small project and it came out well and I was pleased with it. I stopped feeling anxious and panicky and disgusted with myself."

Afterwards I thought how the points you made were actually pretty simple. Then I thought how these blindingly obvious truths had never actually occurred to me before, and how most of the self-help books I have previously read could perhaps have benefited from being boiled down to a similarly spare and manageable format.

In short, I found the book very effective and I think my money was well spent. Many thanks for writing it."

- Mary, UK

"I thought I knew everything about what I needed to do and YOU have so surprised me! This book is helping me already and I'm not even half way through. This is truly a word in due season for me! Thank You So Much Dan!"

- Malinda, USA

Built around the Seven Great Pillars Of Truth about developing your creative ideas, the 100+ page ebook will guide you through each step, transforming the way you see your creative ideas and how you develop them.

  • How and why the best ideas you'll ever have will become blazingly obvious to you amongst the thousands of others fighting for your attention.

  • Why your abundance of ideas is a blessing, not a curse.

  • Why you've been trying to run a crazy hotel of eternally dissatisfied guests in your head, and how to turn it instead into a beautiful, cosy cottage where everyone adores you.

  • How to end the sometimes crippling fear that you'll let your best ideas slip through your fingers.

  • Why you don't need to create every project perfectly, and how liberating that realisation is.

  • Why every project you begin - how ever far you get with it - will inspire you and lead you to becoming a better artist.

  • How to stop worrying about what people will think of your art and create without needing to fit in with other people's expectations that just aren't right for you.

  • How to say no to your ideas, (and how to know which ones to turn away).

  • Why the size of your projects matters, and how to pick the right size at the right time.

You'll also discover:

  • The truth you're rarely (if ever) told about how many of your projects you should be able to finish.

  • Why developing your ideas is not a race to the finish line, and how holding this mentality debilitates your creativity many times over.

  • How to free yourself to experiment and let your ideas evolve in the way they want and need to.

  • Why expectation kills your ability to enjoy creating, and how to turn that around.

  • How to deal with ideas that arrive at different levels of completion - and how to give them the right amount of attention.

  • Why you're being so unfair to yourself and your ideas and sabotaging any hope of being satisfied, and how to stop.

  • How to tackle the issue of being bored with just one project in progress.

  • Why what you create - and how you create - is more inspiring to others than you will ever know.

  • How to create in the moment and experience your creativity more vividly than ever before.

  • The incredibly simple tool that can be the centre of your new life of focused creating.

"I very much enjoyed your book and loved your use of metaphor. You chose wonderful examples to illustrate your points and it really helped drive them home.

After reading the book, I have images in my head to return to when I'm scattered and unfocused. Connecting the concepts to stories and images is very effective to help your reader retain the ideas.

Your Seven Pillars of Truth are dead on. You've really distilled the creative process down to some basic, universal concepts. I'm planning on posting them on the wall as a reminder for myself and my coaching clients."

- Sue Mitchell, YourBusinessYourSelf.com

"I think your book is great, and enjoyed curling up with it today... The ideas and suggestions you offer are really well thought out and not overwhelming... The action steps are obvious... It felt easy to read."

- Cherry, Spain

"I think it's a great piece of writing, especially your creative use of metaphor. I also like the personification of ideas - that they are alive. And I love, love, love the crazy hotel owner mataphor."

- Anne, USA
