About CoachCreative

CoachCreative was founded by Professional Coach Dan Goodwin.

Dan, tell us about what you do...

I help people who are tired and frustrated that they're not making use of their creative abilities, and feel like a large part of them is being wasted and unused. Creativity and "to be creative" means different things to different people, so a major part of what I help people with is finding just what this does mean to them. And sometimes it's not exactly what they thought it was.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by that?

Well, sometimes people may think that they want to be a writer or a painter for example, it's their sole ambition and once they finally achieve this then everything will slot into place and they'll be happy. In reality they often find that although their major passion of writing or painting is indeed a huge part of their life, actually it's not ALL of their life.

My methods allow people to discover how they can use their creativity to achieve what they want in EVERY part of their lives, and to develop the natural creative abilities that are an inherent part of their personality.

Getting this balance right means my clients are more fulfilled every day and in all parts of their lives, not just the times when they're writing or painting, to use the same example.

Why did you become a coach?

I have been interested in and motivated by helping people for most of my life. Throughout my career I've been in Human Resource and people-focused positions, and have spent time as a volunteer in schools and a shelter for the homeless amongst other places.

It was after seven valuable years as a key member in a Psychodynamic Therapy Group that I began to look for a way I could offer this level of help and support to others in a structured way.

This began a period of intense study of the work of top coaches like Fiona Harrold, Anthony Robbins and Steven Covey, and soon led me the decision that training and qualifying as a professional coach myself would allow me to give this help and support to others, using proven and highly effective techniques.

Why specialise in Creativity Coaching?

I've always been a very creative person myself, particularly in writing and music, but also just in my outlook on life. I know what it's like to have a head bursting of amazing ideas and at the same time being in a place I really don't want to be, and feeling incredibly frustrated and limited in how I can express this creativity and move my life forward.

With the help of my own coaches I've been able to realise that we don't have to live like this, and we all have a limitless source of creative talents within us. By accepting and embracing this and putting some of my abilities and ideas into action I've transformed my life over the last couple of years.

I now have my own coaching business, I live in a different place, I'm far more productive and most importantly I've recognised that for me, being creative is not a career or a hobby but simply a way of life.

So what motivates you to help others?

Knowing that by using a structured coaching approach to apply the natural abilities I have, I can help people to get back in touch with their creative selves and make amazing positive changes in their lives.

One of the things that particularly appealed to me when I first came to coaching was the core belief that - "Everyone has within them all the resources they will ever need." This is very empowering for me as a coach, and once my clients begin to realize and act upon this for themselves, the results can be astounding.

Seeing my clients develop and grow in ways they hardly dared believe possible in just a few months, and knowing that I was a crucial part of that progress, is incredibly rewarding.

What training have you received?

I originally trained with The Coaching Academy, Europe's largest coaching organisation, and successfully graduated with the Open College Network accredited "Diploma in Professional Coaching".

To add to my professional coaching experience, I also trained specifically as a Creativity Coach with Eric Maisel, possibly the world's foremost and best known creativity coach (see Eric's website here), which helped me further hone my talents towards Creativity Coaching, as opposed to general or "Life" Coaching.

I've developed my natural coaching abilities from a variety of diverse sources over my life, and it was important for me to give this a formal structure and gain the best training and the most widely recognised qualification available.

The combination of the professional coaching diploma plus the experience with Eric Masiel, gives me greater credibility and testifies that I've studied, experienced and practiced coaching to a very high standard and demonstrates it's something I'm totally committed to.

And finally, what is your motto?

Create! Create your own happiness, create the life you want. It's right there within you waiting to happen.
